The island of Eleuthera

The Bahamian archipelago is a vast area of beautiful tropical islands. Besides Nassau and Freeport, the two main tourist destinations, there are many other islands that are practically untainted and don’t have but a few tourists visiting them. They are called the Out Islands or Family Islands.
Not many people visit them because they are not advertised so much, and this well kept secret makes these places some of the best fishing grounds possible.
One of the most beautiful amongst these islands is the island of Eleuthera. Its name means Freedom in Greek and freedom it is what it is all about! It stretches from North to South for more then 100 miles and throughout its territory, it is full of gorgeous settlements and natural attractions. It has three international airports. The one closer to the house is the one of Rock Sound (RSD).
Geographically, it is located as the outmost land on the Atlantic ocean, that means that after Eleuthera there is no other land before Africa: quite an immense amount of water to fish in where everything and anything is possible! Being Eleuthera, a very narrow stretch of land, this leaves the fisherman with the great opportunity to be able to choose whether to fish on the West Caribbean crystal blue waters or in the deep blue ocean on the East coast, with just a few minutes drive from one side to the next. This also represents a great opportunity for weather concerned Kayak Fishermen. Sometimes, strong winds can cause the sea surface to get extra rough for an enjoyable fishing excursion, but in Eleuthera, there is always one side of the island where the sea will be calm, thus rendering the fishing trip always available: what a great advantage! Not one day wasted because of adverse meteorological conditions, unless it’s a hurricane, of course. The ocean side is characterized by a constant presence of reef that stretches along the coastline for miles and miles. A true natural paradise, infested with all kinds of fishes. >>
